Kansas City, Missouri – This Labor Day Weekend, the Kansas City Chalk & Walk Festival turns City Market into an open-air showcase of Kansas City pride. On Saturday & Sunday, August 30–31, beginning at 10:00 a.m. each day during the Farmers Market, artists will hit the pavement with bold colors and big imagination for this year’s theme: Everything Kansas City.

From skyline sunsets to iconic fountains, from jazz riffs to championship trophies—you’ll see the heart and soul of KC come to life in chalk. Dozens of professional, student, and amateur artists will transform City Market into a living canvas, creating larger-than-life murals, mind-bending 3D illusions, and hometown masterpieces right before your eyes.

Festival Highlights:

  • Chalk Art in Action – Watch up to 60 artists capture the spirit of Kansas City in real time, each square telling a different story of our city.
  • Selfie-Worthy Murals – Strike a pose with interactive, Kansas City–themed chalk backdrops perfect for sharing your love for the city.
  • Children’s Creative Corridor – Kids chalk for free in their own dedicated zone. Buckets of chalk are provided—just bring imagination (and maybe kneepads).
  • Street Performances – Music, movement, and local talent adding rhythm to the vibe.
  • Sculptor Mike Elder Live – Nationally recognized artist Mike Elder will create a one-of-a-kind KC-inspired sculpture right on-site—see his vision come to life in real time.

Since 2008, the KC Chalk & Walk Festival has celebrated art, performance, and community as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) powered by donations, grants, and sponsorships. Now in its fourth year at City Market, it’s become a Labor Day tradition that’s free, family-friendly, and unmistakably Kansas City.

Bring your friends, bring your camera, and bring your KC pride—it’s two days of creativity and community you won’t want to miss.
