(Kansas City, MO) – Just in time for the hottest part of summer, KC Commercial Realty Group and City Market are pleased to announce our newest offering, Fountain City Scoops & Floats [FC Scoops], at 419 Main Street, next door to its parent company, KC Soda Co., which opened at City Market in 2018.
Owner Lucas Thompson said the two businesses will make great neighbors because ice cream and soda go perfectly together. Customers can choose from more than 2,000 craft sodas on the KC Soda side that can be passed through a window to be made into a float on the FC Scoops side, OR they can also choose from a preset menu of combinations featuring some specialty floats including Peach Nehi (a favorite among Boy Scouts), Boston Coolers (Vernors Ginger Ale and vanilla ice cream), and Butterbeer (a riff on a certain Wizard theme).
Thompson says he plans to rotate about 30 ice cream flavors. “You could have a different float every day for the rest of your life without repeating the same combination,” he said. “We’re also blessed with fresh fruit vendors at our doorstep that we can use to add an extra punch of flavor to our fruit floats.”
Thompson’s personal favorite is the Key Lime Pie Float – made with key lime craft soda and old-fashioned vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs. Among the endless float combinations, customers will always be able to order a classic draft root beer float served in a frosty mug. FC Scoops will debut draft soda and kombucha later this month.
While most menu items will be $3.00-$5.00, Thompson said he’s being particularly mindful of the rising costs of food and entertainment and will have options for families of all budgets with treats for less than $2.00.
The new space is bright and fresh, decorated with paintings by Steven Dragan, a popular local artist and Thompson’s former college roommate. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available along with a snaking line to accommodate customers inside and out of weather.
Opening the week of July 4, Fountain City Scoops & Floats hours are Tuesday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. — 6:00 p.m. Closed Monday. For more information, visit https://www.fcscoops.com/.
